Lucille Rose Elgin passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2014. She was born in Walsenburg on Dec. 13, 1927.
She was raised in Trinidad and graduated from Trinidad High School. After high school she went to work for Colorado and Southern Railroad as a telegraph agent. She was one of the first women who worked for the railroad. She worked for 25 years.
She married Charles Scott in 1943 in Raton, N.M. In 1949 she married Joe Luksich in Aguilar, and in December 1963 she married Hank Elgin in Denver.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Garnet Chapter #39 and Rebekah Lodge #99. She learned to fly, got her pilot's license and started the Colorado 99's women's pilot club.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Elgin; infant son, Eugene Scott; brothers, John and Frank Gergely; grandson, Darrell Smith; and daughter-in-law, Lynne Luksich.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Luksich; her daughter, Linda Smith; a sister, Helen Fisher; four grandkids; four great-grandkids; and one great-granddaughter.
Private graveside services will be held in Walsenburg.
