Locavores, those making a conscious decision to produce, purchase and consume local foods, are growing in numbers across the country. In Delta County, more people are growing their own food, raising chickens and meat animals, and producing lots of milk.
Charity riders will visit Delta
More than 175 riders will take part in the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America, which begins in Napa, Calif., and travels over 2,500 miles before finishing at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. Founded by former NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kyle Petty, the ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a camp created for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses.
Setting a great example
ATVs —all terrain vehicles — are a common sight on agricultural and the federally managed lands of western Colorado.
A valuable work tool, ATVs are used on farms, ranches and orchards to herd livestock, inspect and repair fence lines, fertilize and apply chemicals to crops and by water commissioners and ditch riders to inspect and repair irrigation systems.
A home away from home
When John Taylor and Elizabeth Thompson purchased the towering brick home at the top of Delta's 4th Street hill in early 1994, they had no idea they were embarking on a "never-ending fix-up campaign."
