State Executive Director Leland Swenson has announced that the nomination period for local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees began this week.
"I encourage all eligible farmers and ranchers to participate in this year's county committee elections by nominating candidates by the August 1 deadline," said Swenson.
Yellow toadflax (Linaria Vulgaris) is a State List B species found primarily in eastern Delta County along the Stewart and Fire Mountain Ditches and the lands irrigated by that water. Spotty patches also occur on the North Fork of the Gunnison and the main stem of the Gunnison below Pleasure Park.
Fifty years ago this June, down in the Gunnison River canyons above the National Park, the Bureau of Reclamation set two construction companies to work on a project that had not been tried before, at least on the scale proposed: a thin-arch double-curvature high dam.
Most of the dams that the Bureau of Reclamation was building in that dam-building era were "gravity dams" — big masses of either concrete or dirt, clay and rock, piled in the path of a river to store its waters for later uses.
The nomination period for local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees begins on Monday, June 17.
The nomination form and other information about FSA county committee elections are available online at www.fsa.usda.gov/elections.
