Ardene Foley, who has been employed by the Delta Housing Authority since 2007, was recently named the 2013 Colorado Multi-Family Housing Site Manager of the Year for Elderly Housing. The honor recognizes Foley's service, dedication and caring for the tenants of Grand Manor, a 10-unit housing unit in the central part of Delta.
The award was presented by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service and Colorado Rural Development at a conference in Colorado Springs.
Foley received a second plaque from Rural Development in acknowledgement of her achievements in two areas — maintaining a vacancy rate of one percent or less for 24 consecutive months (2011-2012) and a zero percent vacancy rate during 2012.
Foley goes out of her way to accommodate the residents of Grand Manor, said Jo Rosenquist, executive director of the Delta Housing Authority. The units at 321 Grand Avenue are set aside for senior citizens and/or disabled, and Foley is part of their support system, dropping by documents that need to be signed and going through paperwork page by page, if needed. The award recognizes the manner in which she has fostered a community of satisfied tenants, created positive curb appeal and provided exceptional customer service.
Foley was instrumental in the construction of a gazebo at Grand Manor. Since all public housing in Delta County is designated smoke-free, she felt it was important to have an outdoor area for residents to smoke that would be safe and easily accessible. Since the completion of the gazebo, it's become a popular gathering spot for all the residents of Grand Manor. There is no other common area available to them, even a laundry room, since each unit has its own washer and dryer.
Last year, all the kitchens were remodeled with grant funds.
"The residents are all very appreciative, so it makes it all worthwhile," Foley said. She also expressed her appreciation for the support Rosenquist lends to the program.
There are 150 USDA multi-family units across the state, Rosenquist said, so it's quite an honor for Foley to be recognized. The Delta Housing Authority serves nearly 500 low-income families by providing safe, decent rental housing.blog comments powered by Disqus
