Josh Applegate from Farmers Insurance has been seated as the new president of the board of directors for the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce. He previously served as the board's finance director for three years.
"I feel like the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce is moving in the right direction, and I want to make sure the snowball keeps building and rolling," he said.
In the past year, the DACC has seen a 13 percent growth in membership. The board has worked hard on listening to the 273 members to find out what's important to them for the success of their businesses. Education, business advocacy and community support were identified by members as areas of importance. In the past year, the chamber has also increased its social media presence with a mobile-friendly, redesigned website and an active presence on Facebook. Staff and board members continue to work to find engaging and creative ways to promote the membership and Delta community.
"Ultimately what we want to do at the chamber is engage our members into a more active membership so we can all help each other economically," Applegate said. "Personally, I want Delta to be a better place to do business. I hate the fact that people leave Delta to go to Montrose or Grand Junction to shop. We want to build a thriving business community that will drive an overall more engaged and active community. We are here to listen, and the chamber is here to help your business be an active community player," Applegate said.
Joining him on the board are vice president Cathy Boyd from CB's Tavern; finance director Dave Beneteau from Platinum Relations; and directors Mike Maigatter (Sherwin-Williams Paint), Mike Klinger (Mike's Mobile Shredding), Heather Redden (Delta Cabinet Company), Sharon Taramarcaz (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage), Brad McCloud (EIS Solutions), Kylynn Wilson (Crossroads Assisted & Independent Living), Wayne Ross (Delta Auto Parts – NAPA), Lynn Shirk (HopeWest & Hospice) and Darnell Place-Wise (KRYD JackFM).
