A minerals exploration development plan for the sprawling Whitewater Unit, a BLM minerals lease tract running along the base of Grand Mesa from Palisade to Delta, has been filed with the Uncompahgre Field Office in Montrose.

Field Office Manager Barb Sharrow said Monday that the BLM would begin review of the plan.

In a prepared statement issued Wednesday, March 17, the Delta County School District 51 announced that Ed Longfield has turned down the district superintendent job and will remain superintendent in Manitou Springs. About a week earlier school board president Bob Tweedell issued a statement that a contract with Longfield has been negotiated and that Longfield would take over the role of superintendent on June 15 to replace a retiring Mike McMillen.
