Unemployment statistics for Delta County mirrored those of the state, with unemployment dropping from March 2011 to March 2012.

Over the year, the state unemployment rate is down seven tenths of a percentage point from 8.5 percent in March 2011.

A rash of thefts and burglaries have prompted Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee to remind area residents to lock their car doors and keep their garage doors closed.

"I would call these crimes of opportunity," Sheriff McKee said. A wide range of things perceived to have value — from antlers in the yard to car stereos — have been reported stolen in recent weeks.
