Baby & Me graduate
Public health nurse Kelly Beard and health education coordinator Karen O’Brien congratulate Teresa Morris of Delta, the most recent graduate of the Baby & Me program sponsored by the Delta County Health Department. The program helps pregnant women quit smoking and stay quit utilizing a unique incentive — free diapers for a year. Morris said she stopped smoking and drinking when she learned she was three months pregnant. Both her parents are on oxygen so she is fully aware of the harmful effects of smoking, but it wasn’t until she entered the program she learned the danger of secondhand smoke. With support from her family and accountability to the health department, she has remained smoke-free since the birth of Jayden last spring.
