Fire destroys home on Fruitland Mesa

On April 23, at 5:30 p.m., firefighters and Delta County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fire on Black Bear Trail above Crawford Reservoir. Ten Crawford firefighters first responded, but the house was already fully engulfed.

Hotchkiss firefighters arrived later to assist.

Delta County sheriff's deputies stayed on the scene until Montrose County Sheriff's investigators could arrive, since the house is located in Montrose County.

According to Sheriff Fred McKee, the house was not occupied. Sheriff McKee says the owners, Robert and Teresa Bagshaw, were at Denver International Airport, en route to Paris, when a neighbor contacted them about their house.

No one was injured in the fire.

As yet, a cause for the fire has not been identified.

Montrose County Sheriff investigator Monique Salido says some interviews remain to be conducted and an active investigation into the cause of the blaze is being conducted.
