Keeping an eye on Fruitgrowers Dam

c01 fruitgrowers3Photo by Hank Lohmeyer A work crew set up last week at the base of Antelope Hill next to Fruitgrowers Reservoir to replace in-ground instrumentation that monitors landform movements and stability of the dam structure.Following a multi-agency emergency preparedness exercise last week in Delta, OCID Vice President Jan Gage shared with the DCI some information from the Bureau of Reclamation about ongoing ground condition monitoring that takes place at Fruitgrowers Reservoir.

Last week, work crews were installing replacement instruments that measure the rate of ground movements and any "slippage" of the dam structure from its foundation.

SourceGas to invest $3.7M in new lines

c01 sourcegasPhoto by Hank Lohmeyer Over 300 people came to the Cedaredge Community Center on May 9 to get information about expanded natural gas service being offered by SourceGas in previously unserved areas around the town. The company provided free, barbecue-style cookout meals for everyone attending the eight-hour-long event.SourceGas will make a $3.7 million investment over the next year expanding its distribution infrastructure in Surface Creek Valley around Cedaredge.

Company representatives explained to the Delta County Independent that the big investment is not a speculation on future growth prospects.
