The area's many tennis enthusiasts may soon have something to celebrate. The Paonia board of trustees announced at its Nov. 27 meeting that Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant application by the North Fork Pool, Park & Recreation District to rebuild the Apple Valley tennis courts has cleared the first round of applications.
If the grant is awarded, GOCO will require that the town maintain ownership of the property for 25 years. While in the process of meeting that requirement, the town decided to update the lease agreement with the district.
Trustees Amber Kleinman and Eric Goold met recently with district representatives. District members told them that the courts require re-painting every 5-10 years and the nets need to be replaced every two to three years on average. The town agreed to split the estimated annual cost of $4,000 per year with the district.
Grant winners will be announced on Dec. 11. If the grant is denied, then the town will resort to its prior lease agreement, which is renewed annually.blog comments powered by Disqus
