Paonia women host kids at ‘Nutcracker’

Members of two women's groups and their friends came together last weekend to treat and drive 22 children to the Sunday performance of the "Nutcracker" at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts.

"Many of these children had never been to a performance or a concert before," says Judy Anderson, a Senior Partner and board member of Partners and retired teacher's aide who organized the children, some of whom are in the Partners program.

Georgia Finnigan and Inge Lange agreed, "This was a fun project and made this season extra special not only for them but for those of us who got involved."

Finnigan, Anderson and Lange are members of Lamborn Mesa's Neighborly Neighbors and Pitkin Mesa women's groups respectively and found 17 people to donate tickets and take the children to the concert.

The Sunday performance was one of three offered last weekend as a part of the Blue Sage's classical music series. This year, the classical program is including several family matinees as well as evening performances in order to enable families to attend and to make it easier for those who have difficulty going out at night.

Lenore Cambria directed the program and dancers. Music was provided by Blue Sage Artist-in-Residence and pianist Susan Ellinger and Hotchkiss schools' music teacher, Jeannette Carey, on flute. The event was sold out.
