Reverend Charles Thompson has been appointed to be the new pastor at Paonia United Methodist Church. The appointment by Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church is effective July 1.
Rev. Thompson and his wife Linda will be welcomed by the congregation Sunday, July 9. Rev. Thompson will already know some of the church members as he was pastor at the Paonia church from 1984-1988.
Current pastor Rev. Russell Fletcher received notification by Bishop Stanovsky that he will be appointed to Evergreen Methodist Church effective July 1.
Paonia United Methodist Women are hosting a reception to honor Russell and his wife Diane on June 29 from 3-6 p.m. All friends from the Paonia community are invited. Rev. Fletcher will preach his last sermon at Paonia on June 30.
Doug Cline, pastor parish chairman, commented about the Fletchers' service at Paonia. "Russell, in addition to being an outstanding preacher and caring minister, is also a community leader of high moral standards. Diane and Russell will be sorely missed by our church family and the community as they embark upon their new call to serve the Lord."
Administrative council chairman Tom Henshall added, "While it has been a true blessing to have the Fletchers guide our church family for the last six years, and it is difficult to see them leave, we are reminded that Jesus calls all of us to new beginnings. As we experience a new era in our church, we know that our new pastor, Charles Thompson, will continue to lead us in a caring and positive direction."blog comments powered by Disqus
