Doug Long, president of the Pan American Homeowners Association, asked at the June 11 Paonia Town Council meeting why the work permit for the storage units being built at One Pan American was not rescinded.
Barbara Peterson, Paonia town clerk, explained that she had been told there had been mediation between the property owner, Greg Peterson, who is building new storage units, and the homeowners association.
Greg Peterson had told the town clerk the matter was resolved.
The issue revolves around the association covenants stating owners can't have a fence in the front yard. This is not a violation of town ordinances. Greg Peterson wants to have a fence for security. He has said he spoke with his immediate neighbors on either side of the property and town staff. According to him, his immediate neighbors, the police chief and Paonia's mayor are in favor of a fence for security to prevent unauthorized vehicles from parking behind the storage units and being hidden from view. There have been past problems of illegal activity because of the seclusion of the site.
The fence would not prohibit pedestrians from using the property as a short cut from Pan American and Fifth Street.
Mediator Dave Knutson was hired to help the two sides find a solution. Apparently, the issue still needs to be resolved between the Pan American Homeowners Association and Greg Peterson.blog comments powered by Disqus
