It's been many years since there's been a coal shoveling contest during Paonia Cherry Days, but it's back!
Mountain Coal Company will be designing, providing the materials and setting up the event, and the Rotary Club of the North Fork Valley will be timing and judging the contest.
Teams of two will shovel one ton of West Elk Mine's "super-compliant" coal from one bin to another with the fastest team winning half of the entire entry fee pot of money. The other half will be donated to the Rotary Club's scholarship fund.
The winning team will also receive a "traveling" trophy that will have their names engraved on it, and then next year will be passed on to the next winning team.
The more teams that enter, the higher the amount of money in the entry fee pot to benefit the winners and the scholarship fund. So get your team of two together and encourage your friends and neighbors to join in the contest, too!
Send a note with the two participant names, including an optional team name, and your $40.00 entry fee (half is tax deductible!) to Jackie Parks, 12472 – 3700 Road, Hotchkiss, CO 81419. Checks should be made out to Rotary Club of the North Fork Valley Foundation. Call Parks at 527-4585 with any questions.blog comments powered by Disqus
