Megan Sievertsen awoke at around 7:30 a.m. and discovered smoke in her home. She alerted her family and all were able to escape without injury.
Nathan Sievertsen said seven people were in the home at the time of the blaze. That included four children.
The fire took place at 14725 Bethlehem Road on Monday morning. Mike Byers, Paonia fire chief, said firefighters were on the scene until approximately 10:30 a.m. Byers said it appeared that an electrical fire started in the living room ceiling. Fire investigators with the insurance company will determine the official cause. The firefighters were able to save the structure, but there was extensive damage.
