This Saturday and Sunday, the Paonia Junior/Senior High School Facilities committee is holding Demolition Days, a two-day project to complete work in preparation for the construction of a proposed sports facility on the school grounds.
Work will be done between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. both days, but volunteers are invited to help out when they can.
Volunteer efforts are expected to save about $150,000, according to organizers. All volunteer hours will be logged and used as matching funds for the next grant cycle.
Projects will be broken into six projects. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and there's something for everyone to do, including removal of existing fences and old buildings, tree removal, weed-cutting, food preparation (yes, there will be food), and more.
Materials such as rolls of fencing, culverts and more will be for sale to the public as they becomes available.
Volunteers are urged to bring water and work gloves and wear appropriate clothing. Tools, such as wire cutters and shovels, are also needed.
