Mary Blake (center), coordinator of the Colorado Grand event in Paonia on behalf of the Ute Trails Car Club, receives a check for a $6,000 scholarship from Eddie O’Brien, representing the Colorado Grand, on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Colorado Grand is giving the scholarship for a 2014 graduate in memory of Ellen Smith, who coordinated the lunch stopover at the Paonia Teen Center for many years. Also on hand for the presentation were members of Paonia High School and Colorado Grand drivers. The Colorado Grand is in its 25th year of touring a thousand miles in the fall throughout the state. The classic cars arrived at Paonia Town Park from Vail and continued over the Grand Mesa on their way to Grand Junction. After spending last Tuesday night in Grand Junction, they drove to Moab, Utah, and then to Telluride. Last Thursday, they traveled to Lake City and Crested Butte, then completed their tour in Vail last Friday.
