Hotchkiss Marshal Dan Miller wants to remind drivers to not leave their cars running while unattended.
Not surprisingly with below freezing temperatures, owners like to warm their cars up to defrost their windows.
However, anyone who leaves their car warming, unlocked and unattended can be ticketed. It's against Colorado law.
Marshal Miller wrote in his report to the Hotchkiss Town Council, "Don't forget, warming your car up without you being in the car is illegal! Why? It is an invitation for someone to steal your vehicle, or small children have been known to get in the running vehicle and become involved in an accident. Most people won't leave a gun lying around a small child, but they forget the unattended running motor vehicle is just as big of a liability. Never leave any child or animal inside a running vehicle, it can cause injury or death."blog comments powered by Disqus
