The Hotchkiss Town Council has amended how many dogs are permitted per household within town limits. The number is now three dogs instead of two.
Three dogs will be allowed in a household and on the property without a special review and licensing.
The amended ordinance includes limited exceptions. Puppies are permitted at a residence of their birth for 120 days. The puppies' owner must notify police within 30 days of the puppies' birth. Another exception permits dog sitting up to 14 days or for a longer period if approved by the Hotchkiss Marshal's Office. However, no more than five dogs can be kept upon one property for any period in excess of seven calendar days.
The amended ordinance was approved unanimously by the council in December.
The council took the issue on because of the frequency of people asking for a variance to keep more than two dogs.blog comments powered by Disqus
