The Delta County Sheriff notified the Crawford Town Council that it needed to have a formal vote for the Town of Crawford to be included in the online sex offender registry. The registry lists convicted sex offenders by community.
A sex offender must register with local law enforcement when he/she moves into a new area. This is then posted on the registry.
For the Town of Crawford, convicted sex offenders must register with the Delta County Sheriff's Office.
The Sex Offender Registry is available at http://sor.state.co.us. It states that law enforcement agencies are required to release to the public the following information on convicted sex offenders: "name, address, aliases of the registrant, date of birth, photograph if requested and readily available and their Unlawful Sexual Behavior conviction(s) resulting in the registraint being required to register."
No information concerning victims is ever released.
If the court decides a convicted sex offender is a sexually violent predator, the community will be notified by local law enforcement that this party is now living in its area and a community meeting will be held.
