Hotchkiss dog trials open Friday

b03 sheepdogPhoto by Kathy Browning There will be abundant action at the Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials this Friday through Mother’s Day. Here a handler separates the sheep into two groups. If all goes well, one group will then be penned. Stock dogs will be putting sheep through their paces this Friday through Sunday at the Hotchkiss pasture just south of Bridge Street. The action begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 10, and at 7 a.m. for Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12.

Getting Bridge Street spiffy

Getting Bridge Street spiffy

This happy troop planted flowers in the half barrels on the corners up and down Bridge Street in downtown Hotchkiss on Saturday. Earlier in the week, freshly made planters by Tom Wills, Dustyn Foster and Hotchkiss High School students were moved to their new locations on Bridge Street. The large planters made of mine timbers will be planted later and original artwork engraved and painted will make each unique. One planter does have flowers, though. You can see it by Wills’ Gallery and Used Books. Above are (left to right) Alex Ross, Alexis Halbert, Elaine Brett, Tom Wills, Vicki Halladay, Julian Ross, Trevor Wingfield, Dustyn Foster, Carrie Wingfield (eyes covered), Mary Hockenbery and the prankster Mayor Wendell Koontz.
