Rock slide closes McClure

The most hopeful guess as to when a single lane of traffic may be allowed again is on Friday. However, wet weather is not helping and that may cause the repairs to take longer. Travelers are asked to call 511 or check online at www.cotrip.org for the latest travel news.A huge rock fall on Sunday, May 5, has fully closed State Highway 133 on McClure Pass by the Paonia Reservoir. Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews are working to clear and re-open at least one lane of traffic, possibly by some time on Friday.

Fire damages Stahl Orchards building

b01 firePhoto by Steve Huntley Paonia fire fighters battled a blaze at a large cold storage unit belonging to Stahl Orchards on Monday afternoon and evening. The Paonia Fire Department was on the scene for about five hours. The good news is the fire did not damage the packing shed, retail store or a smaller cold storage unit, so Stahl Orchards will be open this season.The large cold storage unit at Stahl Orchards in Paonia is a total loss following a fire which was discovered around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6. Paonia fire fighters were on the scene until about 9 p.m.
