It’s homecoming week in Paonia

Monday through Saturday of this week Paonia High School is celebrating homecoming.

Each day at school, students will be dressing in special costumes.

Monday was Duct Tape Day, Tuesday — Superhero Day, Wednesday — Wacky Tacky Day, Thursday — Twin Day and Friday — Black and Red Day.

This year the high school has named two grand marshals — Patty Thomas and Jan Tuin. They will be riding in Friday's parade through downtown Paonia at 1 p.m.

Thomas went to Hayden High School and Western Sate College. She taught at Paonia High School for 34 years. Her classes and duties were English, drama, speech, integrated studies, communications and student council advisor. She was athletic director, cheerleading coach, speech team coach and school play director. Thomas is married to Rick Thomas. Their children are Josh Thomas and Cailey and Josh Walker.

Jan Tuin taught choir at Paonia High School for 28 years. He graduated from Paonia High School and Pasadena College. He also taught at Coos Bay, Oregon, for nine years. Tuin and his wife, Sandy, have two children, Jana and Eric, and grandchildren Megan, Ben, Autumn and Austin.

The attendants are:

Freshman — Marisa Edmondson, daughter of Jo and Ron Edmondson; and Jeramiah Hillman, son of Kris and Michael Hillman.

Sophomore — Morgan Hartigan, daughter of Lee and George Hartigan; and Azure Eller, son of Christy and Bart Eller.

Junior — Chelsea Martinez, daughter of Kim Martinez; and William Austin, son of Dierdre and Tim Austin.

Senior — Mandy Bushta, daughter of Tracy and Bob Bushta; Abby Campbell, daughter of Tracy and Calvin Campbell; Chelsy Reed, daughter of Lori and Robert Reed; Taylor Katzer, son of JoAnn and the late Greg Katzer; Matthew Hayden, son of Michele and Kevin Hayden; and Jacob Helleckson, son of Karen and Brent Helleckson.

Here's the rest of the line-up for homecoming activities this week:

Wednesday — Powderpuff football at 7 p.m.

Thursday — Senior barbecue from 5-6:30 p.m.; Peachfuzz from 6:30-8 p.m.; car push race 8-8:30 p.m.; and bonfire 8:30-9 p.m.

Friday — Parade 1 p.m.; volleyball with Rangely at 3, 4 and 5 p.m.; Booster Club dinner 4 p.m.; football versus Roaring Fork 7 p.m.

Saturday — Homecoming dance 8:30-11:30 p.m.
