Last week in Washington, D.C., Garnet Mesa Elementary School was officially awarded its National Blue Ribbon School Award. Gloria Munoz, an English language teacher, and Jim Farmer, the principal, represented the school at the ceremonies.
The school received a plaque and a flag which will be hung proudly in the school lobby. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan gave the keynote speech, congratulating schools while urging them to continue to improve and to share their successful strategies with other schools. On Dec. 20, at 10 a.m., all past and present students, families, and staff, as well as other community members, are invited to attend the school's own official ceremony being held on the front lawn of the school.blog comments powered by Disqus
