DHS hosts 8 speech teams

The Delta High School speech team hosted eight schools from around the Western Slope in the annual Delta Invitational Speech Meet. Several members of the Delta team turned in terrific performances.

In Congress, Delta won top speaker honors in three of the five houses, an unusually dominant performance for such a small squad. Voted Outstanding Speaker in their respective houses were Paige Bowling, Haley Donathan and Ridge Green.

Delta debaters Paige Bowling and Haley Donathan posted a 2-1 record and earned third place in public forum debate, while Ridge Green with a 2-1 record came in fifth in advanced Lincoln Douglas debate.

Public speaking events saw Linh Nguyen win third place in original oratory, while Cidney Fisk came in fourth in the same event. Paige Bowling placed sixth in extemporaneous speaking.

In Interpretive events, Delta competitors did very well. In duo, Ayasha and Alysha Richards placed fourth, while the team of Adam Malcolm and Christien Mackey came in fifth. Ayasha Richards won fourth place in poetry while Alysha Richards placed sixth in that event. Haley Donathan placed fourth and Adam Malcolm came in sixth in Humor.

The team will take Thanksgiving weekend off, then compete at Fruita Monument High School the weekend of Nov. 30–Dec. 1.
