DMS hosts Math Counts competition

Over 120 students from Delta, Crawford, Paonia, Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Montessori, Delta Academy of Applied Learning and Colorado West Christian School participated.a08 mathcounts4Photos submitted Delta 4 team members Logan Freed, Madeline Tracey, Nathan Sanders and Isaac Timbreza placed first in the seventh/eighth grade Math Counts competition. Montessori placed second with 31.5 points, edging out Paonia 3's 31.25.a08 mathcounts6Paonia 1 team members Colby Simpson, Dagan Rienks, McKenna Hartigan and Haley Parks made up the third place seventh/eighth grade Math Counts team. Tim Esgar is their coach.

Individually, Harley Ewert of Paonia was first, Seth Brinkton of Paonia was second and Baxter Waltermire of Montessori was third.

a08 mathcounts7Rafi Wick (Hotchkiss), Nathan Phillips (Delta) and Isaac Timbreza (Delta) turned in the top three individual scores among the seventh/eighth graders.Delta 4 topped the competition for seventh/eighth grade teams with 32.25 points. Hotchkiss 1 took second with 31.25 points, and Paonia 1 was third with 28 points.
