Blazing Bulldogs in the second and third grades for September are second graders Alexis Church, Sabrina Danielson, Kalub Dawes, David Denison, Zoey Duncan, Yandel Guereque, Annika Knehs, Kailey Linman, Rylee Spencer, Zaid Vazquez and Paris West, and third graders Jason Kuntz and Bailey Miller.
First awards of the school year
Each month students at Hotchkiss K-8 are selected to received Blazing Bulldog awards, a program created by Principal Carrie Coats to give students a "pat on the back."
Blazing Bulldogs in the fourth and fifth grade for September are fourth graders Micah Cooper Spanseller, Mia Cowan, Genevieve Fisher, Nathaniel Mattler and Joseph Ware; fifth graders Kristal Camacho, J.D. Miller and Elsie Vasquez; and sixth graders Sierra Baker, Taylor DeLuzio, Kenda Falkner, Keaton Glaser, Marvin Guereque, Quinn Husted, Cory West and Ethen White.
The main goal is to recognize students every month who have done well in one or more of the following categories: Attendance, Display of Community of Caring (Citizenship), Effort, Accomplishments, or Other. Teachers are asked to nominate students each month.
The Blazing Bulldog recipients receive a certificate, a coupon from Bananas Fun Park, a coupon for a donut or small fountain drink from Hotchkiss City Market, and their photos in the Delta County Independent. Their names and photos are also posted outside the school office, and featured in the school's newsletter, Wednesday Express.
