Elks and FFA honor students
Photo by Kathy Browning The winners of the local Americanism Contest by the Hotchkiss Elks were announced on Monday evening. From left to right are sixth grade winners Carson Collins, second place, of Hotchkiss K-8 and Alyssa Palecki, first place, of Crawford School, Abby Swarbrick of Hotchkiss Elks, seventh graders Darrin Young, second place, and Isaac Van Horn, first place, both of Hotchkiss K-8. Not pictured is third place winner Madison Reed formerly a seventh grader at Hotchkiss K-8 who has moved to Steamboat Springs. Palecki wrote about “Why I’m proud to pledge allegiance to our flag.” The rest of the students wrote about “What the National Anthem means to me.”
