Cedaredge Elementary School first graders have been excited about studying the states of matter.
Students have not only enjoyed singing songs and sorting objects by their state but have especially enjoyed participating in experiments that show how matter changes states as well.
The first week, students discovered how cooling a liquid could change it into a solid while making ice cream.
The next week, students made observations about how a solid changes into a liquid. Every classroom watched as a snowman made of ice melted over the course of the day. Students recorded changes that they saw and made predictions of what might happen next.
During the final week, Mr. Bill Gladbach, from Cedaredge Middle School, came to do a special presentation for all three classes. Students watched as he used activities and experiments to show the different states of matter. The students really enjoyed his visit, especially when he used a science kit to make polymer worms for the kids. The kids are concluding their study of matter by creating books that show what they know about matter to share with kindergarten students.
So if you know a first grader, let them share what they know about matter with you!blog comments powered by Disqus
