The DHS speech team headed to Ouray on Saturday, Dec. 14, to compete in a day of congressional debate with seven Western Slope schools. DHS took the third-place sweepstakes trophy, based on a couple of strong individual performances.
Haley Donathan was voted outstanding speaker in her room during the morning session and superior speaker in the afternoon session. She was also the presiding officer in her chamber during the afternoon session.
Cidney Fisk was voted superior speaker in her chamber during both the morning and afternoon sessions.
Ayasha Richards was nominated as a top speaker in her house during the morning session.
The team traveled to Paonia on Saturday, Dec. 7, to participate in an events-only (no debate) tournament. In addition to having great individual results, the squad was voted "Sweetest Team."
In original oratory, Delta continued to dominate the field with Haley Donathan placing first, Cidney Fisk taking third, and newcomer Hannah Owens coming in fourth.
Foreign extemporaneous speaking saw Ridge Green come in third, while national extemp saw newcomer Anthony Streich place sixth.
In poetry, Alysha Richards took second place and newcomer Jennifer Lorenzo placed sixth, while in drama Ayasha Richards came in third. Humor found newcomer Lydia Stalcup placing sixth, while Ridge Green took second in creative storytelling.
In team events, the Richards twins, Ayasha and Alysha, took first place in Interpretive Duo, while Haley Donathan and Cidney Fisk placed fifth in improvisational duo.
The team will take a few weeks off for the holidays and then prepare to compete at Palisade the weekend of Jan. 11.blog comments powered by Disqus
