The BK chapter of PEO, a philanthropic educational organization, presented the first Alice Penick Memorial Scholarship to Delta-Montrose Technical College practical nursing student Lori Szabo. Szabo has been in the healthcare profession for six years with training and experience as a CNA, MA, home health, and hospice care.
She is currently completing her first semester of the practical nursing program at DMTC.
The Alice Penick Memorial Scholarship is given to a nursing student to honor Alice Penick's years of work as a nurse. Penick, who died in February 2013, was instrumental in starting the hospice program in Grand Junction in the late 1970s, and was also involved in starting the hospice program in Delta. She was a member of the BK chapter of PEO.
PEO is an international philanthropic educational organization promoting educational opportunities for women. It was founded at Iowa Wesleyan College in Iowa, in January 1869.
