Let's team up to tackle hunger. During this time of year when many spend excessively on food for Super Bowl watching, it is important to stop and think about the fact that there is hunger in our community.
Together we can make a difference by donating to the Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive contests. Building on the success of previous food drive contests — last year 4,624 pounds of food was collected in a classroom/school-based contest — Delta Opportunity School has partnered with the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce to include a business contest. Many churches are also competing to get the most food donated. There will be a convenient place for everyone to donate food. The food donated will be distributed through Food for Thought, the Delta Food Pantry and Abraham Connection.
In the spirit of friendly competition, Delta Opportunity School is motivating the community with fun prizes. Many of the Delta schools and Cedaredge Elementary will compete to see which classroom and school donates the most pounds of food. The winning class in each school will receive a banana split party and its teacher dinner for two at Gerhard's Steakhouse. DOS will also provide candy for each student in the winning school. BELA preschool always does a great job donating and DOS provides popsicles for the entire school.
Find a participating school, business or church to donate food or money or drop off your donations at Delta Opportunity School, 360 E. 8th Street. If you have any questions, want to donate, or sign up to compete, call 874-2753 or 250-8636.blog comments powered by Disqus
