Paonia High School freshmen Blake Benson, Tim Helmer and Warren Minerich and sophomore Chelsea Meilner are all interested in becoming engineers. They recently completed a three-week, free, online course via Brown University in Providence, R.I., called "Exploring Engineering."
The course is part of their pre-college program and intended to expose students who enjoy math and science to the exciting possibilities of a career in engineering. They participated in discussions with students in the class from around the world, engaged in a playground-design activity using an online Lego-based software called Lego Digital Design, and interviewed a local engineer to learn about their work.
Brown University says students "gain an understanding of the various fields of engineering and explore the engineering design process, from conceptual design and optimal choice evaluation to project construction and the need for engineering ethics."blog comments powered by Disqus
