The Delta High School speech team competed with eight Western Slope schools at the annual Montrose Indian Invitational Speech Meet Jan. 24 and 25. For the second week in a row, DHS took the first place overall team sweepstakes award.
Interpretive events led the way this weekend, with Ayasha Richards winning first place in dramatic interpretation. She and her twin sister Alysha took second in duo interpretation. Alysha Richards placed third in poetry.
Congress saw both Ayasha Richards and Haley Donathan voted as outstanding speakers in their respective houses. Ridge Green was nominated for speaker honors in his chamber.
In public forum debate the team of Haley Donathan and Hannah Owens posted a 2-1 record and took second place. Lincoln Douglas debate saw Cidney Fisk also go 2-1 and place fourth.
Delta continued to place in public speaking events, with Cidney Fisk taking second place in original oratory while Haley Donathan came in fourth. In extemporaneous speaking, Anthony Streich placed fifth.
The team will be idle Super Bowl weekend (Go Broncos!), then will host a meet at Delta High School Saturday, Feb. 8.blog comments powered by Disqus
