Paonia High School won the seatbelt challenge sponsored by the Western Regional Occupant Safety Coalition. The students competed against Cedaredge and Hotchkiss high schools in a two-week challenge. Each school participated in five different activities, and the school which showed the greatest improvement in seatbelt usage won. Paonia students improved seatbelt usage by 25 percent. Coalition members presented the trophy to Sturgis at an ice cream party Tuesday, May 21.
