Engaged in learning

Garnet Mesa and Lincoln Elementary School English Language Learners enjoyed winter views of the canyon as they searched for signs of wildlife while snowshoeing along the rim of Black Canyon National Park. Students also took part in a simulation activity that taught them about hibernation, den selection and insulation as strategies for homeothermic (warm-blooded) animal winter survival.Other activities explored a variety of winter adaptations used by animals and plants. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park Outreach Education Program provides experiential learning activities that engage students in learning about the park’s natural resources.
