Practical nursing, barbering students awarded scholarships

Several of the scholarship recipients are pictured with Tony Bowling, DMTC assistant director, Ann and Les Renfrow, and DMTC director John Jones.Nine Delta-Montrose Technical College students received a total of $3,700 in scholarships recently from the L & A Renfrow Foundation.

Recipients included practical nursing students Tiffany Ware, Adrian Sandoval, Pamela Bean, Marietta Johnson, Mary Kastendieck, Jessica Maestas and Ravelle Celaya.

Delta County outpaces state graduation rates

Statewide gains in the "on-time graduation rate" are being mirrored in Delta County, where 83.9 percent of the Class of 2012 graduated within four years of transitioning from the eighth grade.

Data released by the Colorado Department of Education shows the statewide on-time graduation rate for the Class of 2012 increased 1.5 percentage points to 75.4 percent as compared to last year.

Panthers compete in Warrior Speech and Debate Tournament

The Delta High School speech team was one of nine schools from the Western Slope competing at the annual Warrior Speech and Debate Tournament held at Central High School the weekend of Jan. 18-19. For the first time this competition year, finals were held in all events, and a number of DHS students qualified in the final six.
