a06 walshPhoto submitted Future educators Three Delta-Montrose Technical College students were recently awarded the George Walsh Memorial Scholarship to help them continue their studies in early childhood education at DMTC. The scholarship is awarded by the Paonia Rotary and is given to students who are enrolled in programs that do not qualify for financial aid. Four DHS students qualify for national FBLA conference

a05 fblaDHS FBLA membersFour members of Delta High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter have been selected to attend the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., this summer. Tyler Werner, Thomas Duran, Josh Lindsey and Ridge Green outpaced the competition at the state FBLA leadership conference in Vail in early April to advance to the national level.

Delta Middle School pays tribute to late teacher

a05 tributePhoto by Pat Sunderland Using the letters of Mrs. Roberts’ name in an acrostic poem, students in Mrs. Charlesworth’s and Mrs. Barnard’s classrooms remembered Mrs. Roberts as a “rock star teacher” who “believed in us.” One of the two benches dedicated to her memory can be seen on the right side of the photo.Two benches placed at the entrance to Delta Middle School will serve as a tribute to Karen Roberts, a longtime DMS teacher who died unexpectedly during the school year.

While students, staff and family members wiped away tears at the dedication ceremony, assistant principal Tammy Shelton urged everyone to celebrate the life of Mrs. Roberts, "who always saw the positive side of everything."

Vision negotiations near completion; second charter school proposed

Negotiations with the Vision Charter Academy are proceeding smoothly, with contract approval expected in June. Still, Vision parents and staff members were disappointed the Delta County Board of Education did not vote to authorize the charter at its May meeting.
