Pen pals exchange letters

Whenever learning can be used in real life, students learn so much more and the learning stays with them. Garnet Mesa Elementary second grade classes and Lincoln Elementary second grade classes have decided to exchange letters. Students at Garnet Mesa wrote their first letter to a pen pal at Lincoln two weeks ago. This week they received their return letters and were excited to read what their new friends had to say. Yes, real letters, on regular paper — this means of communication is alive and well. The long-term plan is to exchange letters throughout the remainder of the year and meet this spring for a picnic. The students’ focus in writing is to use the correct friendly letter format.
