Fairytale setting

a05 dhspromPhoto by Pat Sunderland Fairytale setting In a land far, far away, Callie Gafford and Dylan Brattain reign as queen and king. The first runners-up for Delta High School prom royalty were Brittany Cox and Robert Williams, and second runners-up were Patti Chapman and Thomas Duran. Juniors Tyler Sandoval and Shelby Curtis were named prince and princess at the conclusion of the grand march Saturday night. Tinsel-covered balloons and twinkling lights transformed the DHS gym into a fairyland. Outside, limousines lined the school drive after dropping off the elegantly dressed couples.

Sense of achievement

a03 girlsonrunPhoto submitted Sense of achievement About 100 students from Garnet Mesa and Lincoln elementary schools are involved in the “Girls on the Run” program. In preparation for the season-ending run in Grand Junction this weekend, they ran a practice 5k at Delta High School last week. As they completed each of the 12 laps, they “earned” a letter on their arms which ultimately spelled out “I just ran a 5k!” Track team members from Delta Middle and Delta High schools joined the girls on the track or cheered them from the sidelines. Walmart donated a gift card for refreshing beverages served at the halfway mark. For more information about the program, the race, or how you can get involved, visit www.gotr westerncolorado.org.
