Planting the seeds of knowledge
As Lincoln Elementary School students get ready to plant sunflower seeds, Erin Barkey quizzes them on what it takes to make plants grow. She brought an interactive exhibit called “Seed Survivor” to the school earlier this month. The mobile classroom features multi-media and virtual reality games, an insect video scope, a sunflower seed planting station, a watershed center, talking walls and more. Seed Survivor was designed to teach youth that plants need water, light, healthy soil and nutrients to survive. It also teaches them that plants are essential for human survival by producing food, income, oxygen and enjoyment for us all. The exhibit is an educational outreach from Agrium Fertilizer.
