Paonia students learn about community

Delicious Orchards set up a farmer’s market. Kids had Big B’s apple juice, selected from a variety of apples and received stickers.

Aiya Schwartz, River Horner and Amelia Gladbach learned about the North Fork Ambulance from EMTs Lawrence and Kandice Bejarano and Cindy Owen. The students learned about people who volunteer their time to teach or help others and what kind of work librarians do at the Paonia Library.

Friday, Oct. 5, was Community Day for Paonia Elementary first graders. The students earned play money for good behavior and had to live within their budget. Above students buy clothing, purses and ties from teacher Jodi Simpson.

Lane Allen in the passenger seat and Lucas Dunn in the driver seat learned what equipment is inside a Paonia Police car. Officers Nick Rogers and Patrick Hinyard showed the first graders how to turn on the car’s siren and emergency lights.

Students from Carol Beers’ and Jodi Simpson’s classes enjoyed the treats at the Cupcake Cafe and the Cow-A-Bunga Ice Cream Stand.

Blazing Bulldogs in the second and third grades for September are second graders Alexis Church, Sabrina Danielson, Kalub Dawes, David Denison, Zoey Duncan, Yandel Guereque, Annika Knehs, Kailey Linman, Rylee Spencer, Zaid Vazquez and Paris West, and third graders Jason Kuntz and Bailey Miller.
First awards of the school year

Each month students at Hotchkiss K-8 are selected to received Blazing Bulldog awards, a program created by Principal Carrie Coats to give students a "pat on the back."

The following Garnet Mesa students earned a Terrific Kid Award from the Kiwanis Club of Delta for their efforts to be a responsible citizen and student. Above are kindergarten and first grade students Corry Dunlap, Diego Vicencio, Nicholas Serve, Domonique Verdeja, Allyson Rusling, Brayden Ahlberg, Camilo Munoz and Miguel Vasquez. Hotchkiss High School students did themselves proud on Class Color Day on Monday, Oct. 8. The color code is pink for freshmen, blue for sophomores, orange for juniors and lime green for seniors.
It's Homecoming in Hotchkiss. All this week the Hotchkiss High School student council has special activities planned.
