Terrific Kids

The following Garnet Mesa students earned a Terrific Kid Award from the Kiwanis Club of Delta for their efforts to be a responsible citizen and student. Above are kindergarten and first grade students Natalia Carrillo, Tommy Montoya-Ornelas, Abigail Pike, Zoey Shean, Xander Graff, Hania Garcia and Sean Dixon. Pictured below are third and fourth graders Jacob Edwards, Spencer Hughes, Cassidy Shea, Kayla Miller, Konner Workman, Elizabeth Cooper, Mariah Rhinehart, Taylor Gibson and Jaydon Paniagua.

Hall Pass Tour plans Delta stop

The Hall Pass Tour, a high energy concert for grades K-12, is making a stop in Delta Monday, Oct. 1. Artists j.RENEE and ScienZe headline the tour, with the help of talented students from Delta who successfully auditioned for the event.

Learner of the Month

Sabina Hayutin, a native of Paonia, is a Vision senior this year. She loves the self-directed learning possible in Vision. Her education accomplishments include the National Society of High School Scholars. Sabina currently is showing her artwork at Elsewhere Studio’s Art Lending Library. She will be showing her debut fashion line, Wabi Sabi, at the fourth annual Harvest Festival fashion show at the Paradise Theatre Sept. 26 and 28. Sabina looks forward to attending college next year and hopes to major in either astronomy or physics.

Hotchkiss kids busily prepare ornaments for Washington, D.C.

Dale Jackson’s second grade art students at Hotchkiss K-8 show off their Christmas ornaments for the Capitol Christmas tree. Each ornament was handmade and had to be seen from a distance of 25 to 70 feet. The students’ ornaments show silhouetted scenes that show Colorado wildlife and recreation. To the left, third grader Alaina Hardin has clothes pins holding her tin pie pans together just before tying fluorescent yellow ribbons to the pans to finish the ornament.

Call it Operation Celebrating Our Great Outdoors. The 2012 Capitol Christmas tree will not only be cut from the White River National Forest, but will be decorated with 5,000 outdoor ornaments made by kids from throughout Colorado.

It’s homecoming week in Paonia

(Left to right) Ty Coats, Joanna Briese, Willow Woods and Braiden Clement were creative with their wardrobe on Duct Tape Day at Paonia High School on Monday.

Monday through Saturday of this week Paonia High School is celebrating homecoming.

Each day at school, students will be dressing in special costumes.
