DHS hosts qualifying speech meet

On Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, Delta High School was the host for the annual national qualification meet for the Western Slope Chapter of the National Forensic League. Students from eight Western Slope schools vied for the opportunity to compete at the national tournament to be held June 16-21 in Birmingham, Ala.

Fun ways to experience states of matter

c07 ces1Middle school teacher Bill Gladbach made a special presentation to all three first grade classes, using activities and experiments to demonstrate the different states of matter.Cedaredge Elementary School first graders have been excited about studying the states of matter.

Students have not only enjoyed singing songs and sorting objects by their state but have especially enjoyed participating in experiments that show how matter changes states as well.

Imaginators

a05 di1Imaginators Teams from Lincoln Elementary, Garnet Mesa Elementary and Delta Middle School competed at the Western Slope Regional Destination Imagination Tournament March 23. Garnet Mesa’s DInstiens, led by Scott Moore, placed first in their improvisational challenge. The DInomite Imaginators, led by Kristie Donathan, placed first in their fine arts challenge. The Crazy DI Bunnies, led by Grace Haws, placed second in their fine arts challenge. The three teams (pictured above) all earned a place in the state competition in Denver on April 13. DInsteins team members are Kurtis Nethington, Bryce Jensen, Kirsten Robertson, Elizabeth Hawkins, Kaitlyn Sharpe, Blade McCormick and Bailey Weiss. DInomite Imaginators are Jillian Carlson, Alex Abila, Andy Barrios, James Goff, Kaleb Lovelace, Darcy Parker and Emma Corbasson. Ashley Trevino, Mairany Jaraquaro, Tyler Neil, Cameron Hudson, Damon Hudson, Eli Miramontes and Taylor Ewing make up the Crazy DI Bunnies. The DI team from Garnet Mesa took fourth place overall, but second for the instant challenge, one of the most difficult portions of the competition. The team is coached by Amber Balbas and was called “6 Dudes and a Chick.” Team members (pictured on the right) are Cade King, Carson Roithmayr, Grant Freed, Sara Geddes, Wyatt Smith, Daeker Conley and Odin Higgs. Eastern Star offers scholarships

Spruce Chapter #129 Order of the Eastern Star, Cedaredge, is offering two $500 scholarships to college-bound senior girls from Cedaredge High School. Forms for the scholarships may be picked up at the high school office or from the guidance counselor.
