Second graders prepare for third grade

The second graders at Cedaredge Elementary School are busy preparing for third grade.

The students have just begun a narrative writing unit, and are enjoying writing their own stories.

Blazing Bulldogs

Each month Hotchkiss K-8 School recognizes outstanding effort from students in each grade in one of five categories — attendance, Community of Caring (citizenship), effort, accomplishments, or other. Teachers nominate the students. Each Blazing Bulldog is recognized at the school and in the Delta County Independent, given a coupon from Bananas Fun Park and a free ice cream cone from Taco Hut. Above are this month’s Blazing Bulldogs from the kindergarten through 2nd grade classes: kindergarteners Trentan Andregg, Micaylee Denison, Bryan Elizalde, Jade Husted, Noelle Lee, Hannah Morales, Kaylee Simpson and Lane Stroh; and second graders Carter Ballard and David Denison.b04 blazing2From the third through fifth grade classes, this month’s Blazing Bulldogs are: third graders Pablo Camacho, Emily Davidovich, Karlie Egging, Gavin Finlayson, Sawyer Handy and Alaina Hardin; fourth graders Jaden Borgman, Connor Bronkan, Kaleb Carr, Casey Dagnan, Oliver Mendoza, Gracie Pham, Isabella Spano, Grace Trefren and Emma White; and fifth graders Joli Derby, Shay Glaser, J.D. For Hotchkiss K-8 physical science teacher Carlyn Luna, she used her Arch Coal grant money to purchase equipment that would provide instant data on motion.

Paonia DI team wins second place

Paonia Elementary’s Destination Imagination team, The Golden Craniums, finished second at the Western Regional DI Tournament at Palisade High School last Saturday. The Golden Craniums competed in the middle school division under the “In the Zone” challenge. They built three cars that used differing propulsion methods, and which had to stop in specific zones to earn points.They also prepared and performed an original skit.
