St. Philips celebrates 100 years of praise

Enyiaka’s birthday.Sunday, May 12, was a big day for the parishioners of the St. Philips Catholic Mission in Cedaredge and visitors as they celebrated 100 years of praise and worship.

The congregation had plenty to celebrate — communion, confirmation, the blessing of the Ten Commandments monument on the outside of the church; Fr. Canice Enyiaka's 42nd birthday; and Mother's Day.

Gymkhana series begins May 29

Members of the Surface Creek Saddle Club met April 29 to finalize the schedule for the club's annual summer gymkhana series. Each gymkhana will include a barrel race, pole bending and flag race, and each night there will be a unique fun race.

Louise Bergonzini (center) was accompanied by her son-in-law, Mike Haddock, her daughter, Jeanette Haddock (on the left), her son, Chuck Bergonzini, and Deb Grizzle (on the right) when she and other Horizons Care Center residents attended the Mother’s Day Tea held on Friday, May 10. The Cummings family entertained with several songs. Refreshments were served; fresh flowers and pink balloons added a festive flair.

Keeping an eye on Fruitgrowers Dam

c01 fruitgrowers3Photo by Hank Lohmeyer A work crew set up last week at the base of Antelope Hill next to Fruitgrowers Reservoir to replace in-ground instrumentation that monitors landform movements and stability of the dam structure.Following a multi-agency emergency preparedness exercise last week in Delta, OCID Vice President Jan Gage shared with the DCI some information from the Bureau of Reclamation about ongoing ground condition monitoring that takes place at Fruitgrowers Reservoir.

Last week, work crews were installing replacement instruments that measure the rate of ground movements and any "slippage" of the dam structure from its foundation.
