Letters to President Obama

Helping President Obama Get Reelected

- Present To Us Your Tax Plan -

Dear President Obama,

Things seem to be going a little rough for you right now on your campaign for reelection in 2012.  As a self-declared Progressive you have explained to us the future benefits of your plans, however, I believe most of us don't understand the mechanics of how we will get to those future benefits.  Maybe a majority of the American Public doesn't understand the wisdom of your plans the way you are presenting them.  I know it's unsolicited, but I'm going to give you a little advice from a common sense regular guy on how I think you can get more support.

For the past several decades, with the blessing of Republican and Democrat presidents, Progressive congressional leaders and followers have put a lot of effort and energy into finding new and confusing ways of taking money from US Citizens.  In the past, we average everyday citizens have busied ourselves with our individual desires and been self-centered in our thinking so we have not been putting much effort into letting our elected officials know our displeasure regarding this attitude.  I'm not sure you realize that a free hand to continue this course of action has ended.

My advice to you is that if you wish to be reelected, present to the American Public a tax plan that is transparent, written in language that every American can understand and allow every United States Citizen to contribute financially to help pay for our government.  If everyone helps pay for our government, then everyone will have a vested interest in how our government is spending our dollars.  I, as one American Citizen, would appreciate the opportunity to have a "Beer Summit" or share some coffee with you and discuss the merits of a "national consumption (sales) tax" or a very specific "flat tax" with you.

If you wish to retain our current tax system, I believe it is in your best interest to clearly define what percentage of our tax burden you wish each citizen to pay.  You have stated that you want the upper 1% of our wage earners to pay for a greater portion of our tax burden.  I know that currently the highest 1% of our wage earners pay around 40% of all taxes, the top 5% pay around 60%, and the lowest 50% (those with adjusted gross incomes of less than $33,048) essentially pay nothing.  I think it would help your reelection for you to tell us what percentage of our tax burden you think each of these wage earners should pay?

Mr. President, I'll be watching your campaign this week and if I have any more suggestions, I'll let you know.  By the way, in order to set up our Beer Summit/Coffee Time, your staff can contact me at the email address below.
