It has been my desire to use this column as a means of communicating the influence the Modern Progressive Movement is having on our society. If left to their desires, this movement will have an adverse affect on our country that will change the values and ideals that have allowed each of us to help The United States of America be the shining example of hope and belief in the power of personal responsibility. The NO Pity Party is made up of those people who choose to eliminate pessimism from their lives by taking personal responsibility to individually do what they can once they recognize a problem. Sitting around complaining about an issue or asking others to do something about an issue for you without first doing all that you personally can do will keep you as a card carrying member of the Pity Party. Let's all try to become Pity Party Free.
On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed into law the Stimulus bill that borrowed $787 billion dollars. My friends, that came to $12,108 borrowed for every one of you who paid taxes last year, leaving you to now pay the interest on that loan. The way the plan is structured, hopefully your children and grandchildren will eventually pay the principal. Most of that money has been spent and recently it seems as though our president has been having a real issue with not having what he considers enough money to spend from the Department of Treasury for the things he wants to do over the next year or so. He now wants an additional $447 billion which amounts to $6,877 for every one of you who pays taxes.
Mr. President, with your new request for a $447 billion loan your office has coined the phrase the Buffett Tax referring to the column Warren Buffett wrote for the New York Times on August 14, 2011 where he said that he thought it would be fair if he paid more of his income to the federal treasury. On April 13, 2011 you, President Obama, gave a nationally televised speech on the federal deficit. During that speech you attempted to make a case for increasing taxes on wealthy Americans, who by your definition are those who EARN more than $250,000 per year. The statement you made was, "And I believe that most wealthy Americans would agree with me. They want to give back to the country that’s done so much for them. Washington just hasn’t asked them to". In other words, you believe wealthy individuals are not paying a fair amount of taxes and since Washington (The Federal Government) hasn't asked them to, they must all be living with feelings of guilt. Jerry Springer expressed his sentiments in agreement with you during a discussion on a national television news show on September 21, 2011 when he said, "Obviously, wealthy people pay more because they have more. You’re not going to get a lot of money out of poor people or lower income people...... I’m one of the lucky ones. If you asked me to pay a little more money, why not?" Mr. President, Mr. Buffett and Mr. Springer I don't want you to feel guilty so just as I find myself doing at times when I try to help my children, I offer you some unsolicited advice.
President Obama, you often refer to yourself as a Progressive. In my book PROGRESS IN AMERICA, Redefining The American Dream, I give insight into the Progressive mind with the following: "The Progressive is the person who wants you to believe in them and reward them for what they tell you they will do, and not for that which they have accomplished".(page 17) My experience has taught me that Progressives tend to be members of the Pity Party and find it difficult to be optimistic because they hope that others will be responsible for accomplishing a goal rather than taking personal responsibility to do what they can about the issue. Mr. President, Mr. Buffett, and Mr. Springer, please lead our country into prosperity by setting a personal example and do what you are asking others to do. President Obama, you released your 2009 Income Tax Returns where you showed a gross income of $5,505,409. Mr. Buffett you are regarded as the third wealthiest person in the world with over $40 billion of net worth. Mr. Springer, you declare yourself one of the lucky ones. By my definition you each are holding a Pity Party and I would like to help you become more optimistic about the future of our country.
Based on the complaints you have made, I ask you to do the following to set an example for all of us not-so-wealthy and not-so-lucky taxpayers, and in so doing you can look at joining the NO Pity Party. The United States Treasury has a website: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/resources/faq/faq_publicdebt.htm with a link in the Financing the Debt section where you click on (Pay.gov). Once the page opens you simply fill in a few lines of information, the first line is the dollar amount you want to donate and the last line is for your method of payment (you can even use a credit card). The "Thank You" section at the end states that the monies sent are "Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt." Your donations are voluntary and you cannot deduct the amount from your tax liability.
Mr. President, Mr. Buffett, Mr. Springer, or any of my readers who might think you are not giving enough of the money you have earned to our federal government so that they can spend it as they choose, please feel free to send as much as you want to our treasury department through the above website. President Obama, Mr. Buffett and Mr. Springer, if you provide me with information showing me that you have given only 10% or more of your net worth to the above website to help reduce the public debt, I will send you an autographed copy of my book for free. As a member of the NO Pity Party, I choose to make this offer to you and I choose NOT to pay more of my hard earned money to the federal government.
