-Authentic American or a Modern American Progressive-
This EXTRA EDITION will appear periodically as personal events in my life cause me to experience descriptive and vivid examples of Authentic Americans or Modern American Progressives. As I describe two events below, think for yourself and decide what you believe the affect that the attitudes expressed by these individuals will have on our country with respect to what you would like our society to look like now and in the future.
In my book "PROGRESS IN AMERICA, Redefining The American Dream", I describe Modern American Progressives as those individuals who wish to control all facets of American Society. They are people who act as if they know better than you do regarding making decisions that affect your life and they ask you to judge the validity of their plans based on their promises in the future, ignoring historical or current facts.
A Genuine American is someone who lives according to the ideals that founded this country, the same ideals that today make us the greatest place on earth to live if you wish to take advantage of the opportunities you can have by accepting the personal responsibility that comes with freedom. The actions that a person takes when they accept the personal responsibility to honor, protect and preserve our freedoms will appear to be irrational, foolish and irrelevant to the Modern America Progressive.
A Modern Progressive Among Us?
On August 7, 2011 I heard Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs-Roberts make a statement regarding the financial issues our country is currently facing. She said, "…..the problem that we have here is the Constitution of the United States of America which actually does require people to come together from different perspectives whether it's divided government or not. We have divided branches of government under any circumstance." This woman believes that our constitution is the problem. From her statement we can assume that she believes our problems would be solved if we were to have only one person making the decisions affecting our country because obviously we would be better off if we just circumvent the constitution and the requirement for the House of Representatives and Senate to vote on issues.
You might think that only a person who lives isolated and insulated from over 200 years of our country's history would express this philosophy. What about a President of The United States? What about a representative of one of the self-declared elite media organizations who wish to have us believe that they have journalistic integrity when presenting news to the American public? I'm glad you asked.
Woodrow Wilson was elected president of the US in 1912 and is consistently described as a person who promoted numerous Progressive policies during his administration. In Wilson’s book, "Congressional Government: A Study In American Politics", he wrote: "Power and strict accountability for its use are the essential constituents of good government…It is, therefore, manifestly a radical defect in our federal system that it parcels out power and confuses responsibility as it does. The main purpose of the Convention of 1787 seems to have been to accomplish this grievous mistake. The ‘literary theory’ of checks and balances is simply a consistent account of what our Constitution makers tried to do; and those checks and balances have proved mischievous ….” That's right, a president of our country specifically wrote about his belief that our Constitution is wrong where it allows congress to have authority to vote about issues that will have an influence over the power of the president.
What about our self-proclaimed elite media? Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs-Roberts is known mostly by her nickname, "Cokie Roberts." According to National Public Radio's website, "Cokie Roberts is a senior news analyst for NPR News, where she was the congressional correspondent for more than 10 years. In addition to her work for NPR, Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News, providing analysis for all network news programming." When and if you listen to her commentary regarding issues our country, remember, she believes Our Constitution Is The Problem.
An Authentic American?
On August 14, 2001, I encountered an Authentic American. On that day, I was in Grand Junction, Colorado at a Chick-fil-A restaurant buying myself a diet-lemonade to take with me during a drive I was about to make. While waiting near the order counter I saw a young man looking through a stack of newspapers next to the condiment counter. He sorted through a few pages and then said, "I don't want this one, it has an American Flag on it". Looking at the young man whose clothing told me he was an employee of the restaurant, the thought crossed my mind that he might have problems with the American Flag. I then asked him what issue he had with the American Flag in the newspaper. He put me in my place when he said, "I need to clean the windows now and I use newspaper pages to do the cleaning. It would be disrespectful of me to wad up something that has our flag on it and use it that way". I told him that I write a newspaper column and when I asked him his name, he told me it is Addison and he told me that I could use his name in this column.
This young man is an Authentic American. It is a tremendous uplift for me to encounter young adults in our society who believe in and will stand tall for the ideals that make our country great.
